Design Engineer I or II

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Design Engineer I or II provides customers and sales representatives with "fully designed" audio, video, audio visual and presentation systems. The design engineer provides selection or review of standard and custom products and services proposed by sales representatives, and integration of these products and services to meet the customer's application.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The design engineer operates as the primary or secondary contact between the Company and the Customer. In that role, the design engineer exercises independent judgment to work with the end user (customer) of the audio visual system to design a system in accordance with the customer's specific needs.

 

The design engineer researches available hardware and software options; analyzes the capabilities of available hardware and software; and designs an audio visual system of various hardware and software components which work together as one integrated system, which will best meet the specific customer needs.

 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience in Audio Theory is required, along with proficiency in the service and installation of audio, video, audio visual and presentation systems.

  • Computer literacy skills supported by acknowledged certification and AutoCAD software familiarity are also very important.

  • Communication, customer relation skills, and the ability to work independently and to be self-directed have direct results on success in this position.

  • Knowledge of project financial reports, and the ability to control costs in the design and management of projects, is essential. The capability to make sound financial decisions based on budget and customer satisfaction is important.

  • A design engineer's educational background should consist of formal technical electronics training.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The "Design Engineer I" classification is based upon 1 to 3 years of industry experience and the "Design Engineer II" classification is based upon 3 to 5 years of industry experience; previous and current systems engineering, installation, and field service experience; academic background in specific Audio, Video, and IT related curriculum; and the proficiency of the positions' required skills.
